January 2020 India Trip: Rishikesh, Varanasi & Haridwar
Arrive at Dehradun Airport, meet your private driver and head to the beautiful Aloha-on-the-Ganges Resort, located in Rishikesh and overlooking India’s most sacred river. Spend the evening settling in, meeting your new companions and easing out of your jet lag with Yoga Nidra.
Your hosts, Laura and John, will start and finish most days with Yoga and Yoga Nidra. Additional transformational programming has been planned to open your heart to the adventure ahead. Lodging and meals have been carefully arranged to provide you with the most comfortable accommodations available and a sampling of the various regions’ most delicious cuisines. You’ll take part in the Hindu tradition of Aarti at three of India’s holiest places on the Ganges… a spectacular ceremony uniquely performed in each city.
In Rishikesh, you’ll visit sites including the Triveni Ghat sacred bathing spot on the banks of Ganges, the unbelievable Jhimil cave and revered temples. You’ll take part in the evening Aarti at Parmarth Niketan and sign up for activities ranging from cooking to bungee jumping to meditation. Maybe you’ll even decide to get fitted for a sari. You’ll catch the sunrise at Kunja Puri Devi Temple and wander through authentic villages to the stunning Gaddu Waterfall. Included in your stay are two spa treatments of your choice at the best spa in Rishikesh.
Hardiwar is an intimate, uniquely authentic city and another of India’s holy pilgrim centers. Here you’ll spend time at Har Ki Pauri/’Bhramakund’, a famous ghat on the banks of the Ganges and, again, attend the evening Aarti.
The ancient, holy city of Varanasi is one of the oldest in the world and is known for its own dramatic spectacle of Aarti at dusk on the Ganges. You’ll stay at Taj Ganges, the renowned resort surrounded by spectacular gardens and walk along the ghats taking in the oldest part of the city. You’ll visit tantric temples, sari weavers and the famous burning ghat. This sacred city’s significance in the lives of the Hindus of India will be apparent and enchanting.
It’s our intention for you to leave India with new friendships, an understanding of Indian culture and a renewed and expanded appreciation of yourself and the world.
